Kurt J. Kammerer
Kurt J. Kammerer (President and CEO) has over eighteen years experience in the energy industry. His background includes power plant operations, energy research and technology development, energy efficiency program design and implementation as well as project management.
Prior to starting his own consulting practice, he led the San Diego Regional Energy Office (SDREO) where he grew the firm from its infancy to over $76 million in program contracts in less than five years. During that time, SDREO became the “go-to” source for independent and reliable energy
information and established itself as the non-utility energy planning organization for the San Diego region, the fourth largest county in the United States. While leading SDREO, he was responsible for all aspects of energy policy, planning and administration of public-good energy programs. Kammerer was the principal author and led the completion of the San Diego Regional Energy Infrastructure Study, a 30-year comprehensive supply and demand analysis for the San Diego region during the 2000-2001 energy crisis. Kammerer les the development of the 2030 San Diego Regional Energy Strategy which was adopted by the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) as the region’s Energy Plan in 2003.
Kammerer was instrumental in leading SDREO and the San Diego region to be selected to represent the United States in the International Sustainable Urban System Designs as part of the 22nd World Gas Conference, in Tokyo, Japan in June 2003. As a result of the 100-year sustainable energy plan that was developed, the San Diego plan placed second only to Vancouver, British Columbia.
Mr. Kammerer served as the Program Director of the California Energy Innovations Small Grants Program, where he led the successful start-up and operation of the $2.5M per year California Energy Commission-sponsored Energy Innovations Small Grants Program, which has became one of the most successful elements of the Public Interest Energy Research (PIER) Program.
Mr. Kammerer received his Masters in Business Administration from San Diego State University and a Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture at the U.S. Naval Academy, after which he served as a Nuclear Engineering Officer on the U.S.S. Parche, a fast-attack submarine. Kammerer currently serves as a Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserves.
Kammerer has two toddler sons, from whom he derives his motivation for promoting more sustainable energy practices.
